  • Competitive compensation and an excellent company-paid benefits package.In your role as an engineer at Horizon Surgical Systems, you will select components and design systems (hardware and software) as part of a complete product subjected to FDA regulations. Your design will be subject to safety and efficacy requirements.The level of title will be determined case by case, based on the candidate's qualifications and years of experience: Senior Engineer, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer or higher.Horizon Surgical Systems Inc. is seeking Electrical Engineers with significant experience in robotics and medical device product development to contribute to a novel surgical robotic system for ophthalmology.Qualifications:
    • Degrees in relevant disciplines such as electrical, computer, or robotics engineering.
    • Experience in architecting computational and electrical hardware systems for safety-critical robotic systems that include real-time, AI, and image-guided subsystems.
    • Electrical design of robotic systems and/or medical devices.
    • Experience in PCB design, component selection, and wiring.
    • Design experience in compliance with FDA guidelines and relevant standards including IEC 60601-1 and IEC60601-1-2.
    • Hands-on prototyping, debugging, and testing experience.
    • Sufficient programming ability in languages/software such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ to design, test, and analyze performance of developed hardware systems.Expectations and Responsibilities:
      • Lead and participate in teams, and work independently, to develop the electro-mechanical subsystems of a complete surgical robotic system able to pass relevant electrical testing standards including IEC 60601-1 and IEC60601-1-2.
      • Lead and participate in the documentation of the electrical aspects of said surgical robotic system.
      • Lead and participate in the hands-on prototyping, debugging, and testing of said surgical robotic system.
      • Adhere to and contribute to design standards, the Quality Management System, and project planning.
      • Apply all available tools, software, training, and experience to effectively analyze and solve engineering problems, mitigate potential risks, and maximize system functionality and safety.
      • Assist and cooperate with other teams and colleagues to find solutions to interdisciplinary challenges inherent in complex robot system development.
      • Commute to, and work on-site, at our Malibu-based office.
